New course in development: Energy literacy - supporting whanau in energy hardship

Back to Resources

Coming up later this year is a new course focused on how to support whanau in energy hardship. Energy hardship is when households can’t afford enough energy services in their home to maintain health and wellbeing.

The course will train people who visit households to:

  • understand the issues of energy hardship
  • have informed conversation with households about energy use
  • share energy literacy skills with households so they can make good decisions with what they have.

This multi-week course will be delivered online.  It will include self-paced learning (technical videos, tasks to complete), and zoom calls to reflect on the material with a trainer.

Who will benefit from this course?

If you already visit households for other reasons (for example, budgeting or health), this adds to your kete of knowledge.  Being able to advise on simple changes in energy use will help your own mahi as well as helping the household to live in healthier conditions.
